5 Month Check-Up
Today we went in for our 5 month appointment. I cannot believe another month has passed by. It seems like the kids have been in school forever because we have been so busy. We are truly in the swing of things with all our activities and all the volunteering that I manage to get myself in to (my guilt for being a stay-at-home Mom I suppose). Catherine loves first grade. We had our parent open house a couple of weeks ago and all the first grade teachers commented that this particular group of kids is one of the smartest they have come across. That's nice to hear. The class pet Catherine was so excited about is a guinea pig that has been named Oreo. The kids each get a chance to bring it home for the weekend. Catherine's name hasn't been picked out of the hat yet, but she cannot wait for that weekend to come. She already made her Christmas list and sure enough, guinea pig is on there (and since she is asking Santa, she assumes that I have no say). Santa may have to write her a note on that one. After school, Catherine is a bit over-scheduled, she is doing karate, art, Daisies (the pre-cursor to Brownies) and CCD. CCD has not been a favorite and when they asked her to say a prayer, she recited the Pledge of Allegiance (I'm sure they put a check next to her name for the child with bad Catholic parents).
Alex is doing great also. Toward the end of last year, Alex's teachers recommended him for a pre-K program vs. a regular 4s class. After much agonizing, Dave and I decided to challenge him despite knowing that he would be the youngest in the class by far (some kids are over a year older than him). For the most part, it has been a great decision. He has learned so much in such a short amount of time and the teachers tell me everyday how great he is doing. On the downside, it is a long day, 9 to 1 Monday through Friday. It really wears him out, but he'll get used to it. Alex is also doing Karate (he is very good at it), soccer, and Art. Busy, busy, busy.
As for our check-up. It went well, her platelets went up to 126,000 (still below normal), but again, everything is statistically the same. I'll take it. MJ, the nurse practitioner thinks we may see a rise in her numbers in a couple of months once Catherine comes off her Dapsone, the antibiotic that she still needs to take as her immune system is still considered to be compromised. We shall see, but in the meantime, we have gotten past another month. Thank God!
