Crawling to the Finish Line
Well, we have six days left and Catherine is exactly where I have always wanted her to be. Now I know this sounds weird, but in the beginning of Catherine's treatment, there was a girl in the office getting a blood transfusion. She looked so sick. Turns out she had gotten a fever and was in the hospital - the virus knocked her out, and to top it off, she was at the end of her treatment and about to get her final lumbar puncture and bone marrow aspirate. I will never forget Amy, the social worker, and Dr. Elisha saying that her body was done and ready to be finished. Well, as you know, Catherine was in the hospital last week with a nasty virus (no thanks to me), she needed a transfusion (immunoglobulins), and her ANC today (drum roll, please...) is a whopping 561! Just above that 500 mark so that she can still take her 6-MP and Methotrexate.
Hard to believe, but the next time Catherine goes to school and to the doctor, she will be OFF TREATMENT. Wow.
